Wigwam and Tasavallan Presidentti are pretty well known to prog heads, but they were just part of Finland’s musical landscape. In their home country, both were on Love Records, the pioneering Finnish independent outfit founded by Henrik Otto Donner, Christian Scwindt and Atte Blom in 1966.

And with the Love Records Anthology, 1967-1976 RPM International is privileged to tell the story of this incredible label for the first time outside Finland, showing there was so much more to the country’s music than Wigwam and Tasavallan Presidentti.

It’s an extraordinary comp: there’s the jazz-inflected Pihasoittajat, the atmospheric Piirpauke and the traditional music-influenced Juice Leskinen & Coitus Int.

The full picture of this revolutionary label is presented with rare tracks from Finland’s first psychedelic outfit Blues Section – who evolved into both Wigwam and Tasavallan Presidentti – freak folk from the legendary Pekka Streng, an extraordinary Christmas song from Finnish national figure M A Numminen and very rare experimental music from the ground-breaking avant gardist J O Mallander.

Release date is 28 June.
